Thatcher William Sumens

He is here and up until this afternoon he was nameless but after going through all of the options, staring at him all night long, asking nurses for their opinions, and some heartfelt prayer we have decided on a name! So here is announcing the birth of: Thatcher William Sumens born June 30th at 8:58pm weighing 8 lbs. 3 oz. and measuring 20 3/4 inches. My labor was PERFECT! After all the trauma when I delivered Alyse I went into it prepared for the worst - however it couldn't have been any better! They started my pitocin at noon, we just chilled, played cards, listened to music, watched TV, etc. At 4 or 5 they broke my water and then things really got moving. The contractions were intense and I had Russ turn the lights off and I just focused on my breathing and staying in control. I made it until 7 and finally gave in and asked for my epidural (why was I putting myself through this? I wanted to enjoy this experience). I was dilated to a 6 when I got my epidural and 45 minutes later I was at a 9+. Just after 8 I was a 10 and my Dr. said it was time to get ready they set everything up and I pushed maybe 10-12 times and then he was here. The mood was light and everyone was laughing and joking. I dare say it was fun! They laid him immediately on my chest and Russ cut the cord. It was such an incredible moment. He is a beautiful content baby and I feel blessed. So here I am just 24 hours later and feeling GREAT! We are already home and baby is doing well. We go in tomorrow morning for a jaundice test and then back to the pedi. on Thursday for his circumcision and a check-up. Alyse is adjusting really well so far and is my little helper. Whenever he cries she comes right over and tries to help she gets him his 'mimi' or pats his back. She looks at me and says, "Cry, cry, baby sad?" It is so cute to see how she loves him already let's just hope that she continues to adapt to the changes in such a positive way! Now I am going to go and rest but here are a few pics of the last 24 hours!

(favorite moment: in between pushes Russ just let's go of my leg and it falls or more like thumps right off the bed. He has this confused and slightly shocked expression on his face and I let him know that that is his only job... to hold my leg. He responds with "that is not my only job I have to help you remember to breathe too" Right and I am only pushing a person out of my body you win go ahead and let go! haha!)

I am so glad I stumbled onto your blog. I was just asking Graycee if she remembered when you were going to have him. He is beautifull. Glad you and baby are doing well.
