Truthfully it is hard for me to be thankful today! This is my last Thursday before I return to work! I have been living in a cloud of denial about this fact I even scheduled to have the kids' pictures taken at 10 am Monday morning (FYI: I am going to be in faculty meeting) because I didn't register the fact that my lazy days of summer are OvEr. I even tried to schedule dental appointments for next week! What am I thinking? The gears in my brain are now fully functioning and I have rearranged my appointments to fit my working-mom schedule, but it is with a twinge of sadness. I love being home with my kiddos and although I enjoy my job it is hard to leave my babies. So after much contemplation here is my thankful list:1. My 2 beautiful babes! I love both of my kiddos so MUCH! Alyse is so full of 'spunk' and thus provides me with hours of entertainment. Her new catch phrase is,"No Waayy!" and which is often followed by, "Yeah Babe" and my all time favorite, "I did it!" (this is said whether she did it or not!). Thatcher is growing up so fast and is turning into quite the chunky monkey and I adore his cute chubbiness and balding head! Although his night owl schedule has turned my brain to mush I love those moments that we are able to share, just the two of us while everyone else is sleeping!
2. My wonderful hubby, who is also going to be sad that I am returning to work, since that means his late mornings are soon over as he picks up the slack of 'mommy duty' while I am off to work! Together we make a great team and I am so grateful that he is willing to work odd hours and make so many other sacrifices to keep our kiddos out of day care! Thanks Hon!
3. part-time! Although it will be a financial strain I am so grateful to be going part-time this year! I am excited for the opportunity to teach Reading Recovery I know that it is an incredible intervention and makes such a difference for so many children. I am thrilled (an scared) for the new challenge. It will be the best of both worlds, I can still teach and be home more for my kids!
4. Summer Vacay! Weird I know to be thankful for something that is almost at an end but I love the opportunity I have to 'feel' like a stay at home mom for 2 months out of the year! It is so wonderful to be able to spend that quality time with my kids. Just a few of this summer's highlights: decorating the kids' room, finding time to read for pleasure (such a luxury!), afternoons at the town square park, mom coming to visit (Thank you again! I wouldn't have made it through the week without you), reading recovery training, birth of baby Thatcher!, my dad and Thatch meeting for the first time (so cute!), snuggling with my 2 kids, Mitchell Family Reunion, visiting with Grandma Russell, lunch dates, late night chats with Russ, sleeping in, Aly's dance party, playing 'pet shop', and my all time favorite (well other than the BIRTH of my second child that is). . . morning cuddles (As soon as Aly wakes up she rushes to our room and climbs into our bed then all of us 'hang out' and cuddle until breakfast, it is the best part about my 'endless weekend'! Once I am back to work I am up long before she comes running in (some days I am gone before she even wakes up!) and I have to wait for a Saturday morning -one when Russ is not working- for all of us to have a good morning cuddle.)
