Surprise Getaway

Russ called me from work Thursday and told me to pack our bags because we were headed out of town! His boss had given us vouchers for a free night stay at the Cedar Breaks Lodge in Brian Head. I took a day off work and we packed up the kids and went! Of course I had not 'planned' on leaving town and I had my neighbor's 4 kids at my house, and was about to have quite a few more (I offered my house as the place for the young women to come and babysit during the Relief Society Progressive Dinner that night) Special thanks to Kenzie (AGAIN) for coming over and helping out! Not only did she stay and help with the babysitting but she stayed after everyone left and cleaned up all the toys, etc. etc. It was so nice coming home to a clean toy room! I was a little overwhelmed with the entire 'getting out of town' process but once we were on the road my anticipation started to build and I was really excited once we hit the freeway! Here is the 'floorplan' of our little room! It was perfect! The couch in the front room folded out into a bed so Aly slept there, we set up the playard in our room for Thatch! I especially loved the BIG tub with its jets! So nice to take a nice hot bath after the kids were in bed!

I forgot to take my camera, of course, when we took the kids to the pool. This was Thatcher's first time swimming and he was very content taking the entire experience in!

Thursday Night we went to dinner at the Lodge Restaurant. Our waiter Tim was so cute with Aly! She had him wrapped around his finger and he was at her beck and call! And she was thrilled when he brought her her noodles with white sauce and some toast! We enjoyed a delicious meal Russ of course had a steak and I got the Marsala Chicken (yummy!) with perfectly steamed veggies and red potatoes! After dinner we headed upstairs to unwind and get some sleep. This picture was taken in front of the fireplace at the restaurant.

After a CrAzY night of sleep (or no sleep I guess you could say-- Aly doesn't sleep so well away from home, but at least she stays in a bed now! and Thatch well he likes to get up a couple times each night no matter where we are) We woke up and made some yummy french toast and sausage in our little kitchenette.

This little cutie loved chillin' on the bed! Who can't feel blessed when you wake up to that sweet face ehh? He gets cuter by the day!

Aly of course loved looking out the window and was so excited to go and see the SNOW! She could hardly sit through breakfast!

Here are my two cute guys, Thatch was not as thrilled to 'see' the snow or even feel the cold winter breeze, I think this was his FIRST taste of cold and he is NOT a fan! He snuggled with Daddy and eventually went back to the car while Aly and I ventured off to discover.

Al loved the 'crunchy' sound the snow made under her boots and liked the way the snow stuck to her mittens. Her cheeks were rosy her nose was running and she just wanted to keep playing, I finally had to bring her to the car and she was so sad to leave. I guess she is her mommy's girl because I LOVE the snow! I love how it sparkles in the sun and the crispness to the air! Being up in Brian Head made me miss my skiing days and someday when my kids are older I hope to rediscover that passion! Such a great getaway! Thanks honey!
