Sick Days!

Let's just say it has been my day, well actually my week for sick kids! This moring during announcements Emilio (one of my students) suddenly started crying not a little bit, no we are talking a wail, as if someone just hit you or steeped on you, wailing. I hurry over to his seat to see what is going on and to my surprise he says his stomach hurts? I thought he had been maimed, tortured, something so the stomach was an unexpected surprise. As I am bending down to look at him, he pukes! Now usually I am able to control myself in these situations. I can help the sick student to the trash can help get them cleaned up, not today. You don't puke around a pregnant woman we don't need a lot of incentive to join in. I had to high tail it to the other side of the room to keep from joining in! I then had my entire class line up at the door on the opposite side of the room (the last thing I needed was for anyone of them to respond in a similar fashion). I hurried my class outside (lucky for me it was fit walk), called the custodian to come and clean my room, and held my breath as I walked Emilio to the office. Now maybe I would have handled this situation better if I had gotten a full night of sleep this week or not been dealing with a sick child at home for days! From the total "cheese"smile on Aly's face you would never know that she has been a TERROR all week. Not that is has been her fault mind you she has been SICK! Poor girl has been coughing, sneezing, runny nose, red eyes, the works! She hardly eats and has slept very LITTLE! Monday Aunt Julia watched her and Tuesday I took a sick day to stay home and snuggle. Wednesday she went to Grandma Pegs' runny nose and all, Thursday Russ took the day off, and today (the day of the vomit) Russ arranged to go in a little late and I raced my first graders out of the door so I could be home in time for him to get to work! It is amazing how everyone pulls together to help take care of our little girl! It truly takes a village to raise a child and I am so grateful for the family, neighbors, and friends that step in and help us when we need it! I can't believe how much Aly has been sick this season! She is a trooper though and although it makes her a little irritable and VERY snuggly (which I really don't mind) she doesn't let it keep her down! Despite her not feeling her best we have found ways to have fun! Today we built a tent with "Big Green Ugly" (a blanket we inherited after Russ and I were married that is HUGE and as it's name implies green and UGLY!) Despite it's appearance it is one of our favorites to have around the house and made for perfect tent material being so massive! Alyse LOVED hiding in the tent and playing peekaboo. She was THRILLED when I crawled in with her and squealed with delight! From time to time we would have to interrupt our adventure to wipe a nose or pause for a coughing fit. Otherwise it was a perfect play day! She seemed to be feeling better than she has all week so we went over to park for some fresh air (since it was such a nice warm day). It was fun going down the slide, kicking the ball, and digging in the wood chips. It is now 8:45 and she is sound asleep (the earliest I think she has gone to bed all week) I am hopeful we will all get a good night's rest and with any luck be feeling MUCH better in the morning! Here's to no more sick days! (At least for a while.)
